Release Notes | Fused Annotation - Improved Sensor Fusion
Updated at March 20th, 2024
👍 Streamline annotation of shared objects
Designed to enhance 2D | 3D Sensor Fusion workloads, Sama now supports Fused Annotations that will allow you to track object-level properties through all your annotations, no matter the annotation output.
In previous iterations of Sensor Fusion, adding a cuboid to a Point Cloud would generate an overlay “phantom” shape in the 2D output for reference only. While this provided good reference information, it lacked important functionalities to enhance the user experience when defining object attributes that depended on the 2D information.
With Fused Annotations, your annotation experience will now be enhanced by allowing you to set object labels from any output.
How it works
Fused annotations add another layer of precision to annotations. Think of Fused annotations as a way to define consistent, object-level attributes, while un-fused answers should be used for shape-level attributes.
3D Annotations only
With Fused annotations, you can more easily track object level attributes while referencing 2D or Orthographic information. When a cuboid is created in a 3D output that's part of a Sensor Fusion workspace, the shape attributes will also be available in the 2D outputs. Answer options that are using a shared attribute will contain (fused) next to the attribute name.
When you enable Fused Annotations for your project, nested output data added to a shape will appear across all outputs in the workspace, This allows annotators to ensure that significant details are recorded for all aspects of a shape.
3D Cuboids + 2D Rectangles
When annotating both 3D and 2D shapes in a single sensor fusion workspace, fused annotations offer the same enhanced experience. In addition to the 3D-only behavior, you can seamlessly create a rectangle from the projected 3D "phantom" cuboid.
Once your 3D cuboid has been created, you can fill in the (fused) answer options and all others.
What it needs
For Fused Annotations to work, your project's settings need to be configured to enable two things:
- Your nested outputs needs to defined in the Sensor Fusion Output
- If annotating 3D and 2D: your 2D outputs must have the "Rectangle" tool enabled for object-level attributes to carry across.
